Mike has worked for local coach company (NBC Motors at Edstaston, now part of Lakeside at Ellesmere) all his life and provided bus services to Thomas Adams School for 60 years.
He joined NCB Motors at Edstaston Garage, Wem in 1957 as an apprentice mechanic.
Mike retired from full time garage work at 65. Over the 17 years since, and during the last few years specifically, he has worked part time. Mike has been responsible for one of the services to our school which collects children from Northwood and other surrounding villages.
Mike has driven buses for 60 years and is still driving at 81. He is one of the oldest and longest serving drivers in the UK and has finally decided to retire and hang up his driving gloves.
Our headteacher, Mr Cooper, caught up with Mike on the last day of term. Mr Cooper thanked Mike for his long service to the school, a significant moment for Mike. Mr Cooper gave Mike a couple of gifts from school. He will be sadly missed at the start and the end of the day by both staff and students.
Everyone at Thomas Adams School would like to wish Mike all the very best on his retirement.
