Happy World Book Day!

World Book Day was created by UNESCO in 1995, as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe, first taking place here in the UK in 1997.

The aim is to offer every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Allowing more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to engage in a life-long habit of reading for pleasure can significantly improve a child’s chances at future success.

To celebrate, staff and students have been dressing up as their favourite book characters. Students had to guess which book character the staff members were dressed as. If they guessed correctly, they were given a raffle ticket to go in to a prize draw to win a prize.

During form time, students took part in an online quiz and watched a ‘Masked Reader’ video to try and guess who’s behind the masks!

The book sale continued during break time, giving students an opportunity to expand their home library! All proceeds from the sale go to support the library.

Overall, a great celebration of reading and books!
